Infinity: Aleph Toolbox army editor

Postby Gereon » 10 Feb 2014, 01:06

(That I would post a serious post in the wargaming forums, whodathunk…)

Apart from Infinity's official army builder, there's also Aleph Toolbox. (Not just for Aleph! Menu→New might help if you follow the link below.) It has totally different interface problems from the official one (stuff moving around when the view switches, instead of everything overlapping etc.), but it allows exports like the one below and also printable nice tabular army lists.

I definitely want to try Posthumans, and bring a full one (which leeches all SWC for a 200pt game), what do you think about this? (It's built with some specialists, in case of objectives. 7+1 Orders.)

I never got on with Aleph Toolbox, but some people do seem to prefer it :)

The official one can also do pretty forum exports, I faintly prefer its style - here's your list from Sunday:

As someone who doesn't like flash because it does only work through emulator on my preferred OS (FreeBSD) and is a hulking nonsense of non-free software in general, I appreciate something something relying on “only” HTML/JS/CGI. (I did even switch on the JS for this!! Totally worth it.) The print function of Aleph Toolbox is also something I like, because it outputs the list with a nice tabular format, and can also tell me the weapon range modifiers in a nice tabular overview. (Army has a print function, but I don't know what it gives you, because it does not behave like a normal print dialog, so I can't print to file and there is no preview.) And as someone inexperienced in all things combat, it helps to have troop types as top sorting criterion, and not just random symbols. Also, you can shift stuff in your list by drag and drop, which I was missing on Army earlier.

On the other hand, Infinity Army looks nicer and reacts faster (once it's loaded, which takes some time and then some flashy transitions) and is the official tool of the makers of Infinity, allows you to move windows around without hacking CSS, keywords there link to the rules in the wiki, and it has slightly better sorting/filtering options. And a slightly better BBCode export version indeed, precise load outs are definitely nicer than the short descriptions.
